Active Corrosion Resistance for Metal Surface by Nano Organo-Ceromics

European Union (EU) will implement the RoHS directive before the effective date of July 1, 2006. The aim is to restrict the use of six hazardous substances (Cd / Cr6+ /Hg/Pb/PBB/PBDE) within electrical and electronic equipment and recycling of the waste (WEEE), in order to protect the human health and the enviroment.

Traditional metal surface pretreatment process, such as chemical conversion coating or anodizing, usually use Cr6+or other heavy metal ions to provide corrosion resistance. The regulation has been more and more restricted for using chromate and other heavy metal ions chemicals as well as using these metal surface pretreatment processes. These traditional electrochemical routes of corrosion prevention for metals can be concluded as ˇ§passive corrosion resistanceˇ¨.

Since 1997, Nanmat Technology has become the world leading company on using nano-material technology to improve the corrosion resistance of metals.

The NanoMate® Coating process is to apply an aqueous or solvent based solution, on the metal surface to form an organo-Ceramics nano-material coating, which can chemically bond to the metal as actively changing the metal surface to be more corrosion resistance, while can also chemically bond to organic adhesives /paints.

The features are as following:

1. These solutions are either aqueous or solvent based depending on the applications, which are environmentally benign and content no heavy metal ions.
2. These solutions can be applied by dip, spin, spray or roller coatings.
3. No Water rinse after coating process, which can eliminate waste water and the major pollution by traditional surface pretreatment processes.
4. Provide strong chemical bonding with both metal surface and organic adhesives/paints, which is much stronger than the mechanical interlock between traditional conversion/anodizing surface and adhesives/paints.
5. The coating thickness can range from less than a µ m to few tens µ m depending on the solutions and applications.
6. It may also replace primers or even topcoats.
7. Chemical composition can be designed to enhance many different properties such as adhesion, corrosion resistance, wear-resistance, hydrophobic or hydrophilic.
8. Can be applied on many different metals and alloys, such as AI, Cu,Ti,Zn,Steel,Stainless and Mg,and all showed superior performance.

We can conclude this revolutionary technology as ˇ§active corrosion resistance for metalˇ¨ which represents by using nano Organo-Ceramics to modify the metal surface as more inert and impermeable to oxygen and water.

This NanoMate® process has not only created a totally new mechanism of corrosion resistance as ˇ§Active corrosion resistanceˇ¨ for metals by nano-material, but also brought in many new applications for certain metals that do not exist before. We believe, by further exploring this revolutionary method for metal surface pretreatment
And finishing, will totally change the way of people using metals.
